Nevine Hunt is a contemporary oil painter inspired by nature and its constantly changing light, evolving into Contemporary Tonalism.
Having spent most of her life in the corporate world as an international creative marketing executive travelling all over the world, she finally managed to follow her artistic side and successfully completed the Diploma in Contemporary Oil Painting at the world renowned Norfolk Painting School based in North Norfolk in 2021. Her time there was transformative, learning studio craft, exceptional technical skills and inspired to develop her creative direction which most recently has taken her into the world of Tonalism, a compromise between temporal and eternal.
Her style has evolved as her colour palette has reduced, painting more about feelings, of a place, atmosphere and the appearance it evokes. About memory and longing, colour and form, vibrancy and subtly of an expressive landscape. Initially painting using rough mark making, textures and many layers, thick and thin glazes, eventually coming together in an inspired composition.
“I start with a photo for inspiration, which I may have taken on my walks in the countryside where I live or on my travels globally. It is a jumping off point quickly abandoned as the paint takes me on a journey of layers beyond the natural world where the temporal and ethereal reign together in harmony.
I hope when people look at my painting they feel it is familiar, but foreign, mysterious and evocative.”
Her primary artistic influences include George Inness, J.M.W. Turner, and Justin T Worrell.
